An exhaustive literature review was conducted in order to evaluate the use of the motivational approach for behavioural changes among elderly people with acute and chronic illnesses. Although limited in number, the studies revealed significant improvements in physical activity, diet, cholesterol levels, blood pressure, glycemic control and increased smoking cessation after MI.
